Dr. Carol Hirshfield
Background
Welcome and thank you for visiting my web site. You will find information about my background and experience, services provided, and you will be able to access forms I use in my practice.
I have had over 25 years experience working with children, adults and their families on the East and West Coasts. My special expertise includes child development, populations who have special needs (such as learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, and autism) and families who are engaged in ongoing high conflict divorces. In addition I have consulted at several schools and day care centers in the Los Angeles area. I am one of the few psychologists in this area who have ongoing social skills groups for children ages 7-14 years, as well as a teen psychotherapy group.
Prior to completing doctoral work in clinical psychology, I developed and ran two highly acclaimed programs for young adults with learning/developmental disabilities. I have taught undergraduate and graduate level classes, including doctoral training in family systems therapy and help develop a parenting center, where we had a peer counseling training program for parents. My postgraduate training includes a 2-year postgraduate institute for family systems therapy, as well as training in advanced mediation, collaborative divorce and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
